Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Guide for NCU International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship 2022

For the purpose of satisfying the growing demand of the international community for Chinese language teachers and facilitating Chinese language education in other countries. the Center For Language Education And Cooperation (CLEC) will continue with the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship. Confucius Institutes, independently operated Confucius Classrooms, certain HSK test centers, Chinese language (education) departments of foreign universities, professional associations for Chinese language instruction of other countries, Chinese embassies (consulates) abroad (collectively “recommending institutions”) may recommend outstanding students and currently-employed Chinese language teachers to study International Chinese Language Education or related majors in Nanchang University.

As a comprehensive university listed among the “the Word First-class Disciplines” in the national “Double First-Class” Initiative of China, Nanchang University is the only “211 Project” national key university in Jiangxi Province which is co-constructed by the China Ministry of Education and Jiangxi Province. Nanchang University is located in Nanchang, the provincial capital city of Jiangxi province. As one of the host institutions of the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (Confucius Institute Scholarship), Nanchang University welcomes international students from all over the world. The application procedure is as following:

1. ELLGIBILITY

All applications shall be:

a) Non-Chinese citizens;

b) Should be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school;

c) In good physical and mental conditions, and with good academic performance and conduct;

d) Committed to Chinese language education and related work;

e) Between the ages of 16 and 35 (35 of September 1st, 2022). Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not be over 45. Undergraduate scholarship applicants are generally not more than 25 years old.

2. SCHOLARSHIP TYPES AND QUALIFCATIONS

Category I: Chinese Language Teacher Programme

A. Scholarship for One-Academic-Year- Study

The program commences in September 2022, and provides scholarship for a maximum of eleven months. International students currently studying in China are not eligible.

a) TCSOL

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSK test score is required.

b) Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy, etc. Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level)

c) Chinese Language Study Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK test (Level 3). Priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSK test score.

B. Scholarship for One-Academic-Semester- Study

The program commences either in September 2022 or March 2023, and provides scholarship of a maximum of five months. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.

TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy, etc. Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.

Category II: Scholarship for Online Programme

A. Online programme for One-Year Chinese Language study commences in September 2022 or March 2023. A general Chinese proficiency test score of 180 in HSK (Level 3) is required, and HSK score is preferred.

B.Online programme for One-Semester Chinese Language study commences in September 2022 or March 2023. Generally, applicants must have an HSK score (no specific requirements for level and score).

3. APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Online registration will be available from March 1, 2022 on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship application website (cis.chinese.cn). Please log on to search for recommending institutions and host institutions; upload application materials online; and track the application progress, comments and result. Scholarship holders need to confirm with the host institutions to go through the procedures of studying in China, print out the scholarship certificate online, and register at host institutions on the designated date as per the letter of admission.

*For those who apply for Nanchang University, please choose Nanchang University as the first choice.

4. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

A. For all applicants:

a) A scanned copy of passport photo page;

b) A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity);

c) A reference letter by the head of the recommending institutions.

B. For degree scholarship programme applicants:

a) A certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expectedgraduation) and an official transcript;

b) Applicants of the Scholarship for DTCSOL students are required to provide 2reference letters from professors or associate professors or experts with equivalentprofessional and technical titles in relevant fields and a 3000-word personal statementin Chinese (including knowledge of the intended field of study and research proposal).Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teachinginstitution upon completing their studies in China or a proof to the same effect.

c) Applicants of the Scholarship for MTCSOL students are required to provide 2reference letters from professors or associate professors. Priority will be given toapplicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution uponcompleting their studies in China or a proof to the same effect.

C. Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall provide proof of employment as well as a reference letter by the employer.

D. Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China.

E. Applicants shall also provide additional documents required by the host institutions.

5.THE APPLICATION DEADLINES (BEIJINGTIME) ARE:

a) For programs commencing in September, student application must complete before May 10th; recommending institutions and host institutions must complete review before May 20th;

b) For programs commencing in March 2023, student application must complete before November 10th; recommending institutions and host institutions must complete review before November 20th.

6.POLITICES REGARDING CURRENTLY EMPLOYED CHINESE LANGUAGE TEACHERS AND CHINESE BRIDGE AWARD RECIPIENTS

a) Currently employed Chinese language teachers:

Currently employed Chinese language teachers applying for the scholarships can be exempted from submitting Chinese Language Proficiency Test (HSK) certificates if they can provide proof of employment and a letter of recommendation from the institution where they work.

b) Chinese Bridge Award Recipients:

Applicants who have won the 2022 International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate in various Chinese Bridge competitions should submit their application documents along with their scholarship certificates to relevant host institutions on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website. 7. OTHERS

a) Applicants should know the specific enrollment conditions and the deadline for registration of our university, and submit application materials in accordance with relevant requirements. Applications will not be accepted if the documents are incomplete or does not meet the requirements. Any application documents be verified fraudulent will lead to a disqualification of application.

b) Those who fail to register on time, fail to pass the health assessment, drop out midway and/or suspended from school will be deprived of their scholarship.
